TWO BEST PRACTICES


I. EARN WHILE YOU STUDY SCHEME


OBJECTIVE

The objectives of the scheme are to

  • • enable the students to come to college regularly
  • • enable the student to earn while they are in college

THE CONTEXT

Most of the students of Nambol L Sanoi College are from Socio – Economic Disadvantage Group (SEDG). They always have a tendency to go for Part time jobs. This often creates their absenteeism from college. At times some of them fail to cope up with the progress of the class. To help them overcome this problem, the College promote “EARN WHILE YOU STUDY SCHEME” on an experimental basis.


THE PRACTICE

Under this scheme, most of the repairing of the infrastructure are carried out by the student of the college. Some of the students who are good in carpentry and mason work are engaged in repairing the infrastructure of the college. They are paid a minimum amount appropriate to the service rendered by them.To enable the regularity of student attendance, the college is preparing more of such a motivating scheme in the coming future.


EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS

The students are able to carry on their studies and earn from the same place without compromising on their duties as a student and at the same time on their financial responsibilities. Thus, the students are able to attend class regularly.


PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOURCES REQUIRED

The SEDG students are reluctant to work in college due to peer pressure.


II. GIRLS WITH LOOMS


OBJECTIVE

The objectives of this practice are to

  • • enable the girl students to come to college regularly
  • • enable the girl student to earn while they are in college.
  • • provide a platform for the products of the girl student where they can meet the buyer face to face.

CONTEXT

Most of the students of Nambol L Sanoi College are from Socio-Economic Disadvantage Group (SEDG). Most of the rural womenfolk of Nambol were engaged in one or the other form of weaving. The girl students of the college also practice this profession in their homes. Some of them are able to sustain their family income from this profession.Most of them are adept at weaving.However, the girl students at times find difficulties in finding capital for the goods.They had to depend on the funding of different wholesalers. They also at times faces difficulties in finding markets for their finished products.


PRACTICE

Taking note of their skill in weaving the “Handloom Research and Promotion Cell” of Nambol L Sanoi College was formed to look after the girl weavers of the college.


EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS

The Handloom Research and Promotion Cellof the college organizesthe “Handloom Expo” to promote the products of the students of the college. Their products on a pilot basis were uploaded on various social platforms. Taking note of their quality and prices, there was a great demand for them from different quarters.The Handloom Research and Promotion Cellis planning to conduct the handloom expo regularly under the theme “BUYER MEET SELLER” to enable the student to meet their prospective buyer directly.


PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOURCES REQUIRED

The girl students are reluctant to participate due to a lack of exposure.
